Specialized Airport Terminal
An airport terminal is a place of memory, a place of departure or arrival. The culture of usage and protocol of operations, are seamlessly integrated. Apart from the peak travel season, the space is partially occupied for sports and other activities.
This specialized terminal maintains a sophisticated global aesthetic while expertly handling complex transit protocols. Designed for a specific travel culture, its planning accommodates unique ritualistic needs. Furthermore, the versatile layout allows the facility to pivot during the off-season, serving as a multi-purpose venue for diverse activities, including sports.
Making sense of these ideas, the design responds gently by organising the space in plan, space and form.
The Steel structure is artfully designed to be both efficient and elegant. The columns, beams and purlins are shaped and arranged to a gentle geometry. Finishes are kept simple and functional. The envelope is designed to be sustainable and responsive to the sunpath.
The transition from a specilized terminal to a multipurpose /sports facility is integrated into the early planning of space and services. The other protocols pertaining to airside, landside and emergency conditions are also addressed.
The foreground to the terminal is planned as a sports field which can also work as a gathering space for multiple activities.
