Set opposite the important State Legislative Assembly building, Bidhan Sabha, a row of residential towers is designed to replace old world bungalows with modern apartment towers, increasing density with better facilities for MLA’s and officers. Six towers are set across the linear site, with the clubhouse located in one end closest to the iconic Rabindra Bhawan and the entrance to the Legislative Assembly.

The linear 15-acre site, allows for a row of six towers and a clubhouse in the landscape. Each tower is shaped to accommodate six apartments that look away from each other. This arrangement brings wonderful light and ventilation but keeps privacy with wonderful views out.  Large windows, ample balconies and spacious rooms make the spaces warm and welcoming.

Residential design is often a balance between design for utility, function and tangible comfort. It calls for a smart and efficient planning that offers flexibility, framework and dignity.

Design Approach

The master plan provides separation and privacy at the block level, and a merging of community and landscape at the site level.  Each pair of apartments are provided their arrival and community landscape. But the larger collective activities are also spread evenly across the site and the clubhouse / community centre.

The public nature of the Legislators profile, asks for the planning to be more inclusive of visiting citizens and well wishers. A larger footfall for the Legislators blocks is accommodated in the common areas and the planning outside.
