The building and landscape flow into each other. Open courts, shaded areas, and outdoor spaces extend the gallery beyond walls. Visitors can move freely between inside and outside. These spaces support learning, play, and social activity, making the gallery feel lively, welcoming, and connected to everyday life.

Designed for interaction and gentle discovery, the gallery is a place that unfolds our relationship with the world through science.

Design Approach

The design is modern but rooted in Bengaluru. It works with the site’s trees, slope, and climate. The building feels open, yet comfortable and human in scale.

Public spaces like the forecourt, lobby, and cafe are active and welcoming. Other areas are quieter and more private. Many spaces open out to the landscape, keeping a strong connection to nature. The outdoor landscape is designed as an exploratorium using water, terrain and simple mechanics to engage the young mind. The gallery in the first floor loops around an existing tree and is on stilt columns to provide semi-open space for outdoor gallery activities and other gatherings and events

Natural light and fresh air are used as much as possible. Trees and shading reduce heat and glare. Materials are simple and easy to maintain. The design avoids excess and focuses on clarity, comfort, and ease of use. Simple masonry construction that is designed for seismic stability, passive climatic design, using low maintenance materials keep the cost to basics. Unnecessary and overt decoration is unnecessary when the spaces and form are architecturally beautiful and engaging. The look and feel is simple but artful and pleasing.
